Deeply and Consciously and Compassionately Reconnecting with Our Humanity

Call it a limiting behavior. My zeal can deafen me to the suggestions others have to make. When passion strikes, adrenaline surges—and it is time to capture lightning. For decades I made a career acting this way, without realizing I was missing the multi-prism perspectives of my intelligent team, which had a lot of value. “Action wins,” I would yell.

To correct this ardor, I wrote down these words on a small piece of paper, “they might be right.” For several years I put that piece of paper in my pocket each morning. As others shared, I would reach for that note and hold onto to it as a reminder to listen—and you know what? In almost every case, they were right. The projects and concepts were greatly improved by listening to my team.

First, Michael, I love that you are a reflective person allowing yourself to be vulnerable. And your scenario is similar to mine. I just wrote “they might be right” on a post-it. Those little reminders are golden and help us pause to think! Thank you for your insights!
